Bells Big Hits - Simon Anderson, 1981

Tracks Magazine presents vid 4 of their Bells Big Hits collection with Simon Anderson recalling 1981's "Big Bells".

Not only is it remembered for having the biggest swell in the last 40 years
Simon Anderson also introduced a new design to the surfing world -- the "Thruster", now used on most surfboards.

If that weren't enough he then went on to win the Final up against Cheyne Horan, making it his second Rip Curl Pro crown (1977 & 1981)

Easter 2011 is the 50 year anniversary of the Rip Curl Pro and the Bells Beach Easter Rally.

Big bells, new design (thruster) and I am presuming lots of beers... You were and still are an inspiration, Simon. I just wish you ended up getting the credit you really deserved... royalties from every thruster made afterwards. At least you can be credited with really pushing the surfing future into the next realm, kudos!!!
