http://fatnews.com/ Hi, this is Larry Hobbs @ FatNews.com.

For 30 years, Joan Mathews Larson, PhD has been treating addiction, anxiety and depression with natural supplements in order to correct the underlying biochemical problems which cause these conditions.

In this video clip, she tells how she treats hypoglycemia with glutamine, niacin (vitamin B-3), chromium, and a low-carb diet, which she says is essential.

"So how do we treat it?

"First of all, I was going to tell you that 'Dry Drunk Syndrome' [ in alcoholics ] is the same symptoms [ as hypoglycemia ], but if you're reading the literature of our field [ that is, research about addiction and how to treat it ], you read Jellinek who says that the Dry Drunk Syndrome is a manifestation of the late withdrawal symptoms: and indication of insufficient adaptation in the symbolic level to an alcohol-free life.' "

"... whatever that means.

"That's making a psychological disorder out of a physical disease.

"Dry Drunk symptoms are the same thing as hypoglycemia.

"That list appeared in the Journal of Orthomolecular Psychiatry several years ago.

"So this is how we treat [ hypoglycemia ]...

"A low-carb diets is very, very important.

"And it's important to educate clients to the rewards that are going to happen, because it's hard to give up sugar.

"But what's going to happen is going to be so worth it for them.

Period

"The first week won't be good.

"The second week will be good sometimes.

"But then they'll be fine.

"We also take them off of all caffeine and nicotine, and of course, refined sugars.

"And they take a lot of powdered glutamine.

"So there are scoops [ of glutamine ] that they can put in water or juice throughout the day.

Note: L-glutamine is an amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

"We use niacin, because niacin will lift that whole curve, a hypoglycemic curve [ that is, it will keep blood sugar from falling ], and that's exactly what we want, so it doesn't dip so low and cause those symptoms.

"Can we give them lots of chromium, and that will stabilize glucose metabolism."

Dr. Larson is the author of "7 Weeks to Sobriety", "Depression Free", and "7 Weeks to Emotional Healing".

Any brand of glutamine is fine.

Everybody buys from same suppliers and then just puts their label on it.

  • @tiatdivad I don't know the scoops size.

One teaspoon equals 3 grams (3000 mg).

She may have meant 3 grams.

If I take too much, it makes me feel anxious, so be aware of this possibility.

    Glutamine powder tastes slightly sweet.

Beyond-A-Century beyondacenturyonline [DOT] com has powder which is cheaper than capsules.

The company is owned by a father (Warren) and son (Eric).

I have nothing to do with the company, but have bought from them for 25 yrs.

PureBulk [DOT] com also has powders.

  • It is great to use nutrition and supplementation to assist us in ridding ourselves of health issues but in my opinion to often we focus on only one nutrient when we should try to make sure we get general superior nutrition - which may require supplementation. Then focus on the one or more nutrients we need to bump up to address those specific issues. Supplemental Liquid Nutrition is best as our bodies must first liquify what we take in.

  • Thank you for your comment. I have been dealing with leaky gut syndrome and celiac. You have helped me. Thanks again.
