I remember seeing a selective cut from my school in Downiville many years ago. They brought in a sky crane and cut a few trees per acher. You couldn't tell that they even cut any trees, but you could go out there and set the ground on fire, and it would never reach the canopy, therefore never causing a fire that could threaten the town, and generating revenue for the federal government as well as the school district. It also created jobs for locals and people from the valley as well.
