VICTORIA'S police chief has ruled out Tasers, while it's been revealed a man shot by police last night was depressed.

The taser debate was reignited yesterday after a man was shot several times by police during a violent dispute in Broadmeadows.

The man allegedly came at three detectives with a large knife and when he could not be subdued with capsicum spray, at least one of the officers fired, hitting him several times in the upper body.

The man managed to jump a fence and run a short distance and was later spotted by a passer by lying in a nearby park.

Peter Robinson, who owns the house where the shot man, Kevin, lived, said his friend had been in a depressed state since moving in with him a short time ago.

He said he was a victim of the fires but he lived in Coburg and was being evicted and needed somewhere to stay for him and his dogs, he said.

He had emotional and financial problems."

  • Hey Daniel Gannan........your shirt is inside out.

  • Tasers are not a substitute or a lethal use of force option. They can be an option if it is safe but the media are reporting tasers in the wrong light.
