In this video series, I hope to explain everything that you need to know about building a hackintosh. Throughout this series, I take you from the beginning stages of planning and researching, all the way to having Mac OS X fully running on your PC!

The second part of my series will focus on picking out the right hardware. I go over what processors, motherboard, and many more components that will make a great hackintosh!

  • cpukid00 Quick question about memory : DDR3 1333 . On newegg there are 3 types of memory .DDR3 1333 PC10600,10660,10666 . What memory do I need to buy for GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard with Intel Core i7-2600K ?

  • @tiberiud75 As long as it's 240 pin and in sets of 2GB (such as 4gb, 8gb, etc), the speed doesn't matter. the 1333, 1600, etc are simply the frequency that memory is meant to be run at. The higher the frequency, the better the performance.

  • Thanks for the great info. I'm currently researching/getting ready to build my first Hack; will be used for schoolwork, browsing, and video production.

I have a question regarding the parts: per the TonyMac "Recommended Builds" list, can I mix and match the components from the different builds to customize my own? For example, I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 board with an i7-2600K and AMD 6870 graphics card. The parts are from different lists; will they work together? Thanks!

  • @dxiong5 Yes, you can mix and match the parts as long as they're physically compatible with one another. For example, don't try putting a 1366 CPU in a 1155 board. Make sure your parts will work with one another.

  • hey man i have a question for u have u ever upgraded your BIOS because i just bought the same motherboard as yours and i wanted to know and aswell when u where installing multibeast did u install the custom DSDT found on tonymac's database or u just install the drivers u needed???

  • @alexcar5 A DSDT isn't required, but it's the easiest way to get everything working. I use a DSDT, which I downloaded from the database.

  • @Tarantula604 The videos are to the point. The point of this series it to give the audience every detail they need to know. If you try to do a video like this in 5 minutes, then it won't help anybody. They'll be asking all the questions that I didn't mention. Regarding Lion, it's definitely worth the upgrade. The new gestures and features like Mission Control are great. It's also overall a "snappier" OS.

  • @brad6193au Thanks, always good to hear experiences from others!

  • @cpukid00 Exactly. The details are nice, because if you really do your homework...you'll be asking yourself all this stuff at some point. And you can waste a lot of time (and money) "trying things out" in order to learn. I wish I would have found this series a week or two ago, before I built. There are just SO many videos out there about Hackintosh machines though--it's impossible to find everything. But if someone wants a cook-book method to build a Hackintosh, just go buy a Mac.

  • @dxiong5 I have that motherboard (very nice motherboard btw) with 2500K, your 2600K will work flawlessly :)
