I never got the 'that's gay' thing. I guessI'm too old. I tpopped up among kids when I was an adult. I took it to mean 'lame' which is a word from my generation meaning essensially the same thing. I took someone to task for replacing ;lame' with 'that's gay'. They pointed out that it's jsut as bad to insult lame people like that.
