Installed in 1977, the original Bloomingdale's from 1959 had no elevator, and a single Haughton unit, which was usually set to up, and there were stairs next to the escalator to go down, or visa-versa, but that old store was gutted in 2007. Oh Well, I like the new home store better anyways, but I'd like it even better if they had Otis Escalators and an Otis Elevator, instead of a pair of Schindler escalators, and no elevator in the expansion, so people have to walk 1mi to get to the elevator, since the store is built horizontal instead of vertical

  • actually these escalators are from 1959 when the store first opened. If you check the Library of Congress photo catalog, you will see the store as it originally looked when it was open with pictures of these escalators. Westinghouse stopped manufacturing these models sometime in the late 60's when glass escalators were introduced as a modern concept.

  • are you sure that the picture wasn't of the old Haughton escalator/stairwell in the old homestore?

  • It sure is interesting that Westinghouse escalators are becoming more hard to find, since they're getting modernized.
