Mr. Morgan has lost his employee and best friend. The funeral service, attended by many, offers a stunning send off with a traditional spiritual, "Steal Away." Though the entire congregation sings, lovely 20 year old Kathryn Grayson makes this a masterpiece! A million thanks to my friend Ellen for this amazing source material!

  • That choral sound is the ONLY thing I miss about not going to church anymore.:) That sound...is just remarkable. What's really amazing is that in the Black church, everyone knows their parts without any direction, regardless of the song's complexity. It just passes from one generation to the next, like pure energy. It's a unique kind of oneness that I've never encountered anywhere else.

    Kathyrn really sounds angelic here.

    Thanks for posting.:)

  • Many thanks my friend! So learned are you! I used to enjoy going to Black churches in my then neighborhood. They were a little while away from home, and required a bicycle ride, but my parents never minded. Their only concern was I get to my own "Catholic" church for at least part of the "Mass!" I'm lucky; not many would have permitted this "break" with the norm.
