Before Jerry Goldsmith made the classic "The Enterprise" theme for Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), he had an earlier version. It is just as interesting, and you can hear the similarities. For fun, I tried playing this earlier theme on the violin...

To hear the original orchestral version, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCwkvUbYiIk by JimJWare.

  • It's very beautiful.

  • On the violin, it kind of sounds like Bartok mixed with Star Trek. Very nice though

  • Fantastic job there my good trekor. A lot of talent you have.

  • Good job, Superare1! I have the impression that Goldsmith's score for this movie has moved you very deeply, as it has for me. More power to you, in that case! P.S. Whilst I love music I can't play a note, much to my eternal shame!

  • There is something about a violin. A crude primitive instrument. Yet in the right hands it can create music that is beyond this world!

  • Loved it!

  • Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its 5 year mission to seek out new like, and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before.

    Live long and prosper.
