Russia - Georgia Conflict

Bush, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

*Caucasus region lies between the Black and Caspian seas that includes southwest Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, and that forms part of the traditional boundary between Europe and Asia. The Caucasus region is subject to various territorial disputes since the collapse of the Soviet Union. After Georgia's 2003 bloodless Rose Revolution, Mikheil Saakashvili was elected president and started his firt term in office. Saakashvili is strongly pro-Western and intends to seek Georgian membership of NATO and the European Union and cooperated on the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. The conflict that has erupted in the Caucasus has set alarm bells ringing because of Georgia's pivotal role in the global energy market. Georgia has no significant oil or gas reserves of its own but it is a key transit point for oil from the Caspian and central Asia destined for Europe and the US. The BTC pipeline carries Azeri natural gas to Georgia and Turkey, and the Black Sea ports of Batumi, Supsa and Poti, and a new port at Kulevi. While America considers Georgia its strongest ally in the bloc of former Soviet countries, Washington needs Russia too much on big issues like Iran to risk it all to defend Georgia. For the Bush administration, the choice now becomes whether backing Georgia - which, more than any other former Soviet republic has allied with the United States - on the South Ossetia issue is worth alienating Russia at a time when getting Russia's help to rein in Iran's nuclear ambitions is at the top of the United States' foreign policy agenda.

Saakashvili thought that the attack on Ossetia, the U.S. will support him, but he was not upheld.

But I was offended by the fact that when Russia defended Ossetia from enemies, Russia was again guilty as the Second World War, Americans and Europeans believed that then why Russia attacked Georgia, but it is not logical and does not rule...

Georgians are so stupid. USA corrupted georgian politicians and installed their agent to be president. And pushed Georgia in conflict with Russia, using Georgian teritory to infiltrate chechen terorists into Chechenia. And using Georgia to provoke Russia all the time. It has been clearly suicidal behaviour. And after all, their USA and western friends abandoned Georgia and Russia could occupy all Georgia, but they did not do that.

Is it smart to have Russia as a neibouhr and as enemy forever?
