Barry Beckett died yesterday at the age of 66. One of the most under-appreciated artists in the music business by people outside of the music business. He literally left his mark on hundreds of songs, many of which will still be played long after we are gone.

He had been ill for quite sometime but now maybe he can listen to his music and really get to enjoy the way we have. So listen once again as Barry's melancholy keyboards take us back in time, once again, down on Mainstreet.
THANK YOU for your music, Mr Beckett and rest in peace.

  • i heard many stories about barry as i grew up in pesacola florida from one of his family members. seemed to me he had an amazing life. i was recently over at the house of the family member i mentioned, and he showed me the program from his funeral, and as i read through the list of people that spoke there that day i was amazed all over again by those he knew.

  • @nevynn2112 In Barry's day if you had talent, you would be found no matter where you were from. Unfortunately, times have changed.Talent no longer has much to do with it.The more people you've shot or been shot is more important than having a great voice.Practically ALL of the people who make it big wouldn't know the first thing about playing a piano or a guitar much less playing it great. As the musicians of Barry's generation, now in their 60s and 70s continue to leave us,there will be a void.

  • He and my dad were frat brothers at Alabama together. I would have loved to have gotten to know him personally. He sounded like an amazing guy. My dad said that he could flat tear a piano up!

  • @GTOgoddess75 There are definitely plenty of examples of that!

  • Thank you so much....Very well done. Thank you also for the kind words....

He was one of a kind in so many ways...

  • I sent Barry some songs a few years back and he called me 3 days later! I moved out to Nashville and worked with him, hung out with him for 2 years...one of my heroes became my friend. That's cool. Never got signed but that's not what it's all about. I'm very proud of the CD we did and will always cherish the time we spent together. Mumblefinger.

  • i loved and adored Barry on so many levels. He was an amazing producer, an intelligent and sensitive man and he always had time to come see me play at the Bluebird when I came back to Nashville for a visit. There's a pain in my heart that he left when he passed away and I will never forget him. God Bless you Barry. You opened my heart and gave me hope.

  • I had the privilege of working with Barry on the Sanford Townsend band Smoke from a Distant Fire album back in '76. His input as a player and a producer was truly magic. He was a master musician
