In my first attempt, I tracked a 480p video of the ending shot of one of the episodes of Smallville. It was low res, and even though it came out half way decent I always wanted to go back and redo it.

I came across the same episode in HD and over the past month or so ive been working on doing this shot all over again.

This particular ending shot was one of the most horrible shots ive had to work with. It was extremely hard to get a solid track, and even then there are some areas that have a very small amount of sliding if you look close enough.

The roto work was horrible as well. I used AE CS5's Rotobrush tools which helped a lot, but I still had to go back and do a lot of it by hand, manually rotoing out parts of the actor.

I think this one turned out much better than the last one, and I couldnt come up with anything to say in the text on the road, so I just threw my name in there.

Definitely a very huge job for one guy.

  • to make it behind him do you just mask the guy or what

  • @byMSN Yes. 3 layers... base layer is the footage, 2nd layer is the 3D elements, and 3rd layer (top layer) is the footage again, but with a mask around the actor.

  • How did you put text behind him?? with no greenscreen? rotoscope??

  • @UnderlinedDesigns Yes. Tons of roto.

  • any tutorial for this? ath would be a hit.

  • @wheay21 A tutorial about this would be huge. It would require hours of video to record. Last time I made a tutorial that long, a lot of people didnt like it because it was 12 parts long and no on wanted to watch all of it.

Sad to say, most C4D users on youtube only want short tutorials on how to do easy things.
