Instead of purchasing that popular cardboard core, use what you already have! I'll show you how.

  • Very cool! I just ordered a yarn winder so I can ply some of my skinny baby yarns together. I just cant take the length of time it takes to knit something with such skinny yarn. Maybe when I get more mature in knitting lol. I love your tutorials and you are an excellent teacher! This is the most fun i have had learning something :) Can you suggest some reading to learn about wools. I want to order some roving but have no idea what to get ...where to start?? I like things to be soft.

  • @DianaLouisiana Actually, I find lace knitting to go pretty darned quick. You would normally use size 6 & up for most lace patterns & you knit loosly so it's done before you know it! I LOVE lace knitting! I do have a book in mind, but I cannot find the name of it (I don't own it myself). Do a library search on hand spinning wools. You should come up with a bunch! Internet searches are wonders too. Merino is the softest & unfortunately the most expensive.

  • Your videos are great! I'm new to spinning...why do you want the cardboard tube in the yarn ball? Is it only for plying or would you do that if you were making a regular ball?

    Thanks

  • Yep, only for plying. :)

  • Thanks so much for all the postive feedback! If anyone is unaware, I am doing a fundraiser to raise the funds to replace a RAM chip in my puter that is crappin out, making it impossible to edit video to upload to youtube. I have two more waiting to be edited! You can find my fundraiser page at rexenne. chipin. com/ new-1gig-ram-chip (take out spaces). I appriciate every little bit that helps! Thanks for your consideration and support!!

  • I just plopped the TP roll over a ratcheting Clamp & spreader tool. I use it to keep the small lazy kate from moving around so it is there to be used in that way too.

  • Also...If you are using a small ball winder, you can cut the tp roll in half, because that is plenty big for the cake that will form, and it gives you twice as many tubes to use.

    Have fun...:)

  • I'm glad someone else is doing this, i've been doing it for ages and my Hubby thought I was nuts, but now he has agreed it is worth the effort to safe the cores.

  • Great video and idea! Very usefull!

  • Just wanted to say that since watching this, I have started putting all my yarn on TP Rolls so I can keep them in order & it makes them easier to use on my UnWinder lol. (basically it uses Dowl (sp?) rods to hold the ball & then when you use it it will just unwind the yarn for you.. simple! message me if you want to see mine :-) ) Thanks again for the idea!

  • haha you are wonderful! Hope you have an absolute Great New Year!!

  • quite interetsting. There's still stuff to learn!
