Formula SAE is an intercollegiate competition in which students design, build, and race a formula-style open-wheel racecar to rigorous specifications within a tight timeline. The formula, created by the Society of Automotive Engineers, specifies that a new frame be constructed each year to promote design changes in every aspect of the vehicle. For safety reasons, the cars' engines are restricted to a twenty millimeter air intake and 610 cubic centimeters of displacement.

Teams must demonstrate production costs and manufacturability, as well as market their design on its merits before proving their machine's abilities on the race track.

At Auburn we know that experience counts. On the Formula SAE race team, we put our engineering skills to the test by designing and fabricating almost all of the car's parts.

Auburn's entry to this series is sponsored by the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering as well as many businesses and individuals. The school's challenging curriculum has helped to produce quality engineers for years and will continue to do so in the future. The Auburn Formula SAE Racing Team is a tribute to that excellence and a model of what Auburn engineers can do.
