Gordon Clune secures the mighty sum of $25 (2 months wages) in 1883 Montana by his copper still entrepreneurship.

The Clune family sing an Irish folk song at dinner. The lyrics are:

Gather up the pots and the old tin cans
The mash, the corn, the barley and the bran
Run like the devil from the excise man
Keep the smoke from rising, Barney!

Frontier House is another great show made by PBS that took 3 modern day families and had them live a summer in Montana as if they were pioneers from 1883.

did the clune family end up winning the house in malibu ?

There wasn't a "prize" for participating in the show other than a judgement by a panel of experts that told each family if they were predicted to survive the coming Montana winter.

The Clunes were having a house built in Malibu during the time they were on the show. At the end of the program they showed that the Clunes moved into the Malibu mansion on a seacliff but they did not seem to enjoy it as much as the cabin on the frontier.

It was a fantastic show. So original! The families really ended up liking 1883.

Had it not been for the father, They would have been my favorite family. Seemed to me they really wanted to have fun with it and he was a real downer. Actually, I think they Were they the ones that got divorced within a year of moving home? Might be wrong on that.
