It blocks aldosterone (less water & sodium retention) and decreases postassium loss at the distal tubule.

@liveyourlifeforJC hey,, i used to use differin,, it did help my acne, but not a lot,, but if that doesnt work the dermatologist will put you on something stronger that will work haha donntt worry:) also be aware it will make your skin a bit more oilier,, thats not probably what you wanna hear.. but anyways it may work for you, i hope it does:)

First time I tried spironolactone, I was on 50 mg. for about 3 months and i was in LOVE with it! My skin cleared up almost 100% and blotting my terribly oily skin wasn't even something I thought of anymore. HOWEVER, after a couple months there was about a week that I had chest pains. I linked it to spiro and quit. A couple months later I went back on it again but 25mg and the chest pains came back. Anyone have the same experience or know what it's from?!

I think make up will only exacerbate it. Although, nothing is wrong with a little lipgloss and mascara for special occasions. Last year, I was on accutane. It was the only thing that worked and now trying to find alternatives. I am taking spironolactone +ortho tri cyclen+ aczone topical gel + tarozac gel+ cetaphil antibacterial soap. If this doesn't work, I give up.

I've been taking it with birth conrol pills. I started taking it like in september started with a low dose and worked up to about 100 mgs twice a day. But I still break out.

@MsDimplecheeks I take them both in the morn. I see a difference in oil production but not like WOW my face is amazing kinda thing! But I'm going to start taking three 25mg a day now...with othro evra!

Hi Mexusagirl, Thank you for sharing your experience . I have been searching the internet for information about Spironolactone for final year pharmacy course. Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic and it is not licensed in UK to treat acne. It is used with other diuretics to treat hypertension and potassium loss from the body. By the way, you look very cute and you ve got a feminine nice voice.

@mexusagirl Hi i'm about to take sprio, i was just wondering how i should take it? I've just bought 25mg, and i'm thinking of taking the, twice daily so my dosage is 50mg. But should i take both the pils at once in the morning?
hey! :)
So, I'm using differin.. have you ever tried that? It's the .3% gel
BUT! I would def want to ask my doctor about Spiro. Does it make your skin really sensitive to sun? And how did you get rid of your scarring?

@liveyourlifeforJC No, I have not tried Differing... i think my younger brother is using it and his skin is clearing up a bit... he still has acne but it's not as bad. He is also taking antibiotics, which r helping him too. Spiro. did not make my skin sensitive to the sun... the only side effect I had was that it made me pee more often, lol. I have not gotten rid of my scars. My scars are still there. I just hide them with makeup :)

Umm... I'm looking at the plastic case it comes in and I don't see a brand name... it just says "spironolactone tablets, USP" I'm taking 75mg... I take three, 25mg tablets a day. How long have you been taking spiro? Is it working for you?? I wanted this to work for me so bad but as of today, I'm still breaking out :( Although I've only been on it for 3.5 weeks so I may just need to give it more time. It's very frustrating!!
