Hi Jess. It is a discussion forum, and I took it that you were defending you corner, which is fair enough. I never thought you are rude, and you certainly have nothing to apologise for. :)

    Steady on. Pax vobiscum. :)

I never said you were a bad person! You are probably a very nice person. You stick up for Michael Jackson, who I always thought was a fine person. I fought like hell to get the rubbish (now these were bad people) written about hi on Wikipedia, when he was having bad publicity.

People tend to rubbish Fideio also. I think it is a great opera. I have no doubt that DG is too. The operas have different messages. One says revenge pays off (DG). The other says it doesn't.

Personal opinions do count - mine does. I expect you have a personal opinion also. I like Fidelio. Just because you don't will not change my mind. I also like Der Ring des Nibelungen (which you will not know, as it was not written by Mozart). It is a little long winded for me. I think Don Giovanni is OK and like the Commendatore scene. However, some bits of the rest of it are tedious to my mind. If you are into freedom and justice, then Fidelio. If you are interested in devils, then DG.

I don't care what you think. Fidelio is the best opera for me. It is absolutely packed with beautiful music from end to end. Most operas are full of dross with a few nice tunes to save the boredom.

this recording is pretty good! Beethoven is one of the most misunderstood geniouses that ever walked the face of the world. this overture is a perfect representation of his most famous technique: a common theme passed among many voices. if you listen carefully, you'll be able to hear how cleverly beethoven weaved it throughout this masterpiece
