Regardless of how established Shandling is in the comedy genre, Ricky sees him as a hero, which is why he's acting like a kid at christmas. It's his idol. It's sort of like if I could meet Ricky, oddly enough, I'd probably act too excited. But shandling doesn't need to be such a fucking cunt to him all the way through this.

This is a personality clash. Shandling is insular and dry as a bone. He also thinks Gervais is stepping on his answers (which he is). Gervais is unusually honest and wanting to be liked. The power struggle where they both stand up is intriguing.

It's funny that Ricky brings up not being asked if he wanted a coffee as Stephen Merchant once told a story about Ricky not getting him a cup of tea and when Stephen asked Ricky why he didn't get him one Ricky replied "I assumed you didn't want one." hahahaha

I think Shandling is a douche in this, but still kind of funny. I can't stand Gervais, I think Shandling might be seeing through this weird concept series -- Ricky Gervais licks his heroes' arses.
