People are of two minds with raccoons. When they're wandering around being all cute, people love them. They're little bandits! But when they've made a nest in the attic, people hate them. They're little monsters!

Truth is, raccoons have been a food source in America for a long time. Native Americans ate them, and they were commonly eaten on American farms.

In fact, the first edition of The Joy of Cooking, published in the early 1900s, actually featured a recipe for cooking raccoon. Isn't that mainstream enough?

  • This raccoon reminds me of John Carpenter's movie "The Thing". If you REALLY want to gross out your guests (especially FEMALE ones, ha ha), get TWO raccoons & assemble them together so that they look like a cooked victim of the alien. You know, an extra set of feet coming out of the sides, two heads cooked together sticking out of the chest, etc. It should be a VERY entertaining meal...but you'll prolly be the only one who eats any of it. Ha ha!

  • @wrght9185 lol! i can totaly picture that!!!

  • Years ago, I got to try roasted ground hog. As I remember, it tasted like a cross between beef and pork with lots of little bones in it.

  • @absentmindedprof it sounds like a simlar taste to raccoon

  • @wrght9185 lol! awesome with the head and feet that would makd an awesome episode!

  • @FoodOddities I agree with otakucode: squirrel is good. I lived with my grandparents when I was little & they cooked squirrel often. They were old fashioned country people & unconcerned with the "gross factor". They were just after food. They cooked the squirrel intact: feet and head still attached. City people would probably be sick. Anyway, it was good. Squirrel gravy!

  • @otakucode i havnet tried squirrel yet i will have to try that!

  • Have you tried squirrel? It's not TOO odd... but I bet lots of people have never had it. It's actually pretty good, as long as you can get all the fur off and not get it in the meat.

  • @GILFHUNTER187 thank you!

  • This kid is awesome
