A song we wrote to the tune of "American Pie", about the collapse of the home front during the Vietnam war as part of a history project.
It's just a bit of fun, really =]
We know we're not the best singers, but still =]

Lyrics:

Not such a long time ago
Round about 1968
Johnson was under an attack
The home front that had wanted war
Had seen the madness and the gore
And now they decided to fight back
Respected men like Walter Cronkite
Luther King and William Fulbright
Started to oppose it
The gov was wrong, we admit
Their speeches made opinion clear,
Vietnam, why are we here?
The end we know will not be near
Unless we try for peace

Oh
My my this here Vietnam guy
Are we aidin or degrading
Do we even know why?
These were the thoughts
Of the regular guy
Things seem to be going awry
Oh, at home they were going awry

The students were the first to go
And with their protests they did show
That Vietnam was unlawful

Ahh, the Ohio National Guard fought back
And stopped four students in their tracks
Even though their protests were peaceful

Well, musicians were the next ones who
Helped to make the war taboo
The songs of Country Joe
John Lennon and Yoko Ono (ooh)
Their message was give peace a chance
And even those who wanted to best France
Started to change their pro-war stance
Oh yes, it was the start

They started singin'
My my this here Vietnam guy
Are we aidin or degrading
Do we even know why?
These were the thoughts
Of the regular guy
Things seem to be going awry
Oh, at home they were going awry

Now the boys in Nam began to lose
So the boys at home didnt get to chose
Conscription began to take its toll
So the working classes turned against
McNamara and the State Defence
And the government began to lose control

Soon the middle classes followed suit
As they were taxed for the recruits
They didnt want to pay
For a war that was going astray
Now America could feel the fear
And Saigon said "Now listen here"
"Leave us like you left Korea
"Please stop this war today

They was singin'
My my this here Vietnam guy
Are we aidin or degrading
Do we even know why?
These were the thoughts
Of the regular guy
Things had definitely gone awry
Oh, at home things had gone awry
