Kenyans held for drug trafficking in China

This is not the first time that Kenyans are caught on the wrong side of the law outside Kenya over drugs, so the government has no reason of rescuing criminals who are out to taint the countrys image. Always before traveling these people are always warned and made aware of the penalties that come with drug trafficking and this were not an exception, so they should be left to deal with it. These are among more than 200 Kenyans currently being held in various jails in China, India, Pakistan, UK and other Asian countries over drug-related offence. Many other Kenyans are serving sentences in jails around the world for drug-related offences, but the Government is unaware because they used fake documents, or were not registered with Kenyan missions abroad. A number of them have died in foreign jails.

Mexico police-drug trafficker nexus

It was Mexico's latest sweep to root out corruption among police and government officials, which has been a major obstacle in President Felipe Calderon's battle against drug cartels. Last week, federal officials arrested 10 mayors and 20 other officials in the western state of Michocan. Soldiers and state and federal agents detained the local police officers for questioning after soldiers found evidence linking them to drug dealers who were arrested last month. A state public security official said 25 officers were detained at police headquarters in the cities of Monterrey, San Nicolas de los Garza, Apodaca and the state public security offices.

Pakistan economic crisis

Amid the ongoing peace crisis across the country, the economy of the country is unsteady and the masses find it extremely hard to afford their day and night necessities. Recent figures from business news show a budget deficit of 400 billion Rupees of which nearly 84 billion Rupees have been borrowed from external sources while the rest were borrowed from domestic sources. The prices of commodities keep soaring while the purchasing power is dropping notably. More recently the prices of nearly 50 kitchen items including many eatables went up by more than 10%. Against this rise in prices the purchasing power of average Pakistani has fallen by more than 50%. For both federal and provincial governments the issue of ever deepening economic crisis is as serious a threat to the country as extremism and violence.

World Environment Day: Jordan

Jordanian environment ministry is marking World environment day which usually celebrated on 5th June through a campaign titled Your Planet Needs You, to combat climate change. This campaign raises public awareness mainly with regard to changing habits or at least to decrease climate change which had led to reduction in rainfall and agricultural production. The campaign would be targeting illegal logging, proper use of energy resources, air pollution by cars and other related subjects, all of which being issues which are badly needed in a country severely suffering from unfavorable climate throughout the year.
