The obvious would be Bases, and Cello's, with a very scratchy viola :) Naturally a whole symphony. I used to be part of a high school symphony. And I do believe in the opening are bases, almost too low pitched for cello's. But they used a very battered irish pub piano, literally damaged, for that distinct sound! If you still want to know more, go to this website "Filmtracks", it had reasonably good information :)
