Oglethorpe Power Corp, the nations largest cooperative owned electric generator unveiled plans for three 100 megawatt plants to be fueled by pine trees. The objective is to have the facility up and running by 2015. The carbon neutral power will come with a 1 million dollar investment in three biomass plants announced Thursday.

The sites will provide power to 38 electric membership cooperatives which serve nearly half of the states population. No sites have been selected as of yet, but the plant is considering several different locations. Each of the three plants will employ about 50 people initially but will flood the timber industry with future employment to supply fuel.

Tom Smith, president and chief executive officer of Oglethorpe Power Corporation, said, Were pleased to find an environmentally friendly way to help meet some of our members growing demand for electricity.
