Due to an outage at Minot, ND on BNSF's Northern Transcon, all traffic has been rerouted through Laurel. The intermodals and container trains are being routed over Montana Rail Link and the manifest and grain traffic is being routed through Great Falls. This is an exciting time around here as traffic through Laurel has more than doubled overnight!

Last night, I ventured out to Columbus, MT just in time to catch five trains in 40 minutes before the weather forced me in for the evening. Here they are in order:

Train #1: Unidentified manifest train, Rapids, MT. BNSF 5314 East. Power: BNSF C44-9W 5314, BNSF (ex-ATSF) C44-9W 659, BNSF SD70MAC (ex-BN) 9424, BNSF C44-9W 4187, BNSF SD70MAC

Train #2: Empty Coal train, Columbus, MT. Power: BNSF AC4400CW 5662, BNSF (ex-BN) SD70MAC 9542, BNSF ES44AC 6010 (DPU).

Train #3: Z-SSECHC09-22, South Seattle, WA to Chicago (Cierco Yard), IL priority intermodal, BNSF 4012 East. Power: BNSF C44-9W 4012, BNSF C44-9W 4110, BNSF C44-9W 4628, BNSF C44-9W 4833.

Train #4: Z-SSECHC08-22, South Seattle, WA to Chicago (Cierco Yard), IL priority intermodal, BNSF 5415 East. Power: BNSF C44-9W 5415, BNSF C44-9W 4700, BNSF C44-9W 4620, BNSF C44-9W 5489.

Train #5: Q-SSECHC01-22, South Seattle, WA to Chicago (Cierco Yard), IL guaranteed intermodal, BNSF 4328 East. Power: BNSFC44-9W 4328, BNSF C44-9W 4503, BNSF (ex-ATSF) C44-9W 642.

Thank you for watching! Please rate and comment. All videos now shot in HD, watch with the 720p settings. Copyright 2011, Montana Railfan Productions.

A special request to all viewers: Please keep the people of Minot, North Dakota in your thoughts and prayers. The Souris River has overflowed its banks and is flooding the city. 10,000+ residents have been evacuated and many railroad people are currently out of work with their trains rerouted to avoid the flooding. Thank you.

  • What mine was the coal cars headed back to @2:44

  • @generationll I don't know. There are too many coal trains that pass through here to know what mine they came from. The train was a domestic train that came from the power plant @ Centrailia, WA.

  • Really like the power that your loco's have they sound fantastic. If you get chance have a look at the UK Deltics a sound like no other. the engine is worth looking up Napier Deltic tri-angular formation. Am very impressed with video clips must get over to see these in the "flesh". Keep up the good work.

  • Good stuff Sir.

  • é muito legal

  • 88 cars on the friest 1

  • I went through Minot a few weeks ago on Amtrak and you could see how bad the flooding is. You could look at the houses and see that the water almost came up to the roof. Very Shocking.
