I love the comments, "could have taken a few fingers." Yes, that is a Uuropean Sparrow Hawk, but a true accipiter, a Kestrel is a falcon. People, the internet is there to educate as well. Bu the looks of it, if it crashed into something, it is probably done, internal or neuro damage. Best left to be eatten by a stronger Spar that didnt crash into a wall, kill that gene line then and there lol

cool man i have seen a few of these birds not as up close as this but , think i seen 1 flying off sith some grass or moss in its beak , think it could be making a nest close to this place , think i might go and have a look i would love to find a nest just to wach these quality birds because there are quite hard to spot compared to buzzards or kestrals there al loads of them around lanarkshire area

It's a sparrowhawk. I've had lots of them in my back due to keeping pigeons. But I wouldn't have gone near it with my bare hands. It could have taken off a few fingers.

Yes, Thanks for that, I realised in hindsight that my fingers were at risk! In future, if it happens again, I'll wear gloves. Bri.

I got a better look at the chest for a second its a sparrow hawk. Kestrels are smaller and have more color. Also they like most falcons have a white face with black lines that sometimes resembles a helmet.
