I ran number 2 on Memorial Day Weekend as engineer for a day, and she steamed pretty well, but all of the crew try to run old number 2 as little as possible, because they can't stand her. She has a bad habbit of pulling over water, the crew mostly find a problem, she is a pain in the neck to lubricate in the morning, she is tough to steam and work on, and she is a little too light for regular service.

I totally agree. That 3-chime matches her beautifully. The hooter, I couldn't stand.

They run whatever locomotive is in the best operating condition

To echo Chris9017's comments, the Heisler is also one of my favorite steamers at Roaring Camp. Nice video! That is one sweet-sounding whistle she is wearing... kind of unusual to hear her without the infamous single-chime hooter she used to wear.
Does anybody know if there's a schedule for when they use the different engines. I've been on all 3 but would like to ride on something other than the dixiana which they seem to use all the time... Good video

For the most part, they run the Dixiana in the spring
(two truck shay) sonora in the summer( 3 truck shay)
and the heisler in the winter. Spring has minimal amount
of people while summer has a TON and winter has almost
zero people. The heisler is the lightest steam engine
used on the main route there( the Kahuku is obviously
the smallest(used to haul people to the parking lot and
back in the summer).
