A ton of gold is worth about 50 billion USD at the moment, whereas 100 pounds of sterling silver would be worth about 50 thousand USD, about a million times less.

Mr Dinwiddie doesn't want another gold rush, so he doesn't spend his gold much. He just wants to work his mine and be left to his own devices with his dynamite and such.
Can't say I blame him really.

so Ivor is "rich" with £100... Yet that old guy has over a thousand tonnes worth of gold! What currency exchange are they using????

Jones the Steam's facial expression at 2:02 just makes me laugh.
Great children's classic this, damn shame they don't do anything like this anymore.

THE FIRST THOUSAND TONNES. JUST BRILLIANT

Juggernaut? Isn't that word used for huge trucks and road trains?
That thing is a makeshift diesel rail lorry (try to say that quickly!) made out of scrap!
I bet Ivor would be absolutely bemused to see such been replacing him...

There were until recently - Clogau Gold was one - I think it's closed down now though. If you google for it, you'll find out as much as I know.

brought a lump to my throat.
Of course!! It is a fact that The Queen and other female members of the Royal Family have wedding rings made of Welsh gold. This is a true fact. I believe you can check that on the Buckingham Palace official homepage.
