@yankee2yankee You seem to have experienced a history malfunction. It was FDR who first made cannabis illegal. Alcohol proved too popular to outlaw, but it was conservatives who attempted it during Prohibition, not liberals. Marijuana was a poor man's drug, associated with Mexicans and black people, and was therefore demonized by (white) politicians and newspapers of all parties. Racism made cannabis illegal... but it happened when republicans were still the less-racist party.

The reason alcohol is legal, and cannabis is NOT, is that alcohol is the drug of the right, and cannabis... the drug of the left.

The reason I dont want to say "another Tom Lehrer" is because Roy is unique, special and covers his own ground like no other. The reason I DO want to say "another Tom Lehrer" is because it's the highest form of praise I can think of. Sheer joy greets every new Roy song in my house.
