Bangor Savings Bank "Christmas Kittens"

Here's a commercial made by Jack Havey at Ad Media (Augusta, Maine) in 1980 that may be one of the longest running TV ads in history. Until just a few years ago, the bank - due to popular demand - would revive this spot every Christmas on the Bangor TV stations. After we shot the commercial (I was the cameraman and editor), Jack kept the kittens at his camp on Maranacook Lake, and some of them ran off into the woods, prefering the feral life. I believe their offspring still roam those woods today.

Every time I watch this commercial it makes my day go a bit better.  It's so calming and adorable.

I don't think you realize what this means to a child who grew up in the 80's... this was my christmas livelihood and whenever i'd see this commercial as a child i KNEW it was christmas time. Being in communications now, this is above and beyond meaningful to me. Thank you so much!

This is the best ad ever! I remember when it used to run, if I heard the ad start on the TV, I would drop whatever I was doing and run to the TV to watch it. I've asked Bangor Savings if they would run it again and they said probably not. What a shame. I have saved it to my PC and watch it several times every Christmas season.

I remember Ad Media in Augusta all those years ago when I was in High School - Never saw this though - still what a great commercial!
