This is a quick look at Rahab in Joshua chapter 2. Here we see that she was a woman of faith, one who believed in and trusted in the one true God. Even though God's judgment came down hard on the citizens of Jericho, His love and mercy were extended to a woman of simple faith.

  • Fantastic! Thanks so much for your thoughts on Rahab. I have always felt this is a New Testament story stuck in the middle of the Old Testament!

  • Thank you for your comment, and I like the way you describe this as "a New Testament story stuck in the middle of the Old Testament." I have pretty much always viewed the OT as an illustration in real lives of NT doctrine.

  • That's a very nice study. Thanks! It also is an example that God doesn't show favouritism to rich people or already righteous people, but He looks at the heart.

  • Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. You are right about God looking at the heart, and I am grateful that He does.

  • If Rahab really had faith, then why did she lie? Didn't she know that God will burn her for eternity for lying?

  • Explain this: The people of god went on a killing spree and massacred the villages on their way, because the voices in their head told the they were "evil". Does that not make them the real evil ones?

  • Yes - so many "rules" were broken in this story. 1. They marched on the Sabbath, 2. They did a deal with a Canaanite (and a woman and a harlot). I have spoken to a number of Rabbis and they all seem to have problems with this story. Many jews belive Rahab was n inn keeper and ONLY an inn keeper. Grace and Faith are indeed rare and precious jems when you are digging around in the Old Testament.
