Christiane Noll. Back to Before (Ragtime on Broadway - Jan 8th, 2010)

Because the general American population (especially tourists from the Red States) is so damn uneducated & uncultured, shows like Rock of Ages and Shrek get longer runs than vastly better shows like Finian's Rainbow and the brilliant Ragtime. (I bet you those boys at the Brooke Atkinson theater keep pouring sugar on each other even after Fela! and Next to Normal close.)

Anyways, I'm not bitter.

I wanted to record the whole show, but I couldn't. If anyone has it - in video or audio - please let me know! I had to record Christiane Noll's "Back To Before", which, in my opinion, is devastatingly beautiful.

This production of Ragtime is the only Broadway show I've seen multiple times. It was the most amazing experience I've ever had in the theater.

Note: I don't hate Rock of Ages. There's totally a place for that on Broadway. It's fun. That's fine. But it's ridiculous to compare it with original theater. And when something like Rock of Ages gets nominated for a Tony ([title of show] was robbed), there's something dire with the state of Broadway.

@footgirlhaha I know what you mean. The show was recorded by the Lincoln Center Archives, so when you are in NYC you can watch the DVD at the New York Public Library! :)

I have to say that this revival kind of sucked. But Christiane was FANTASTIC, really a standout performance that carried a rotten show.

I think she deserved it more than Catherine Zeta Jones.

I missed seeing this by 3 days. I had tickets, but they closed the show and refunded my money. So sad to miss this amazing performance live.

Wow, opinion much? This Red State tourist refuses to see Mama Mia!, Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys, and the like. I'm sad I didn't make it to NYC six months earlier to see this show. But some of my Red State friends did a summer stock junior production that could probably rival any overly-talented Blue State production. You're so cultured, Splurge24.

To others: Although I agree this performance is great, you can not judge CZJ on her Tony award performance. She really was great in ALNM.

Agree great book,great music doesn't mean commercial success. I enjoy a wide sampling including those you criticise but without there sucess New York Theatre would be unable to move forward in inovation and would have to leave it to regional companies like Great Lakes Theatre Festival and Cleveland Play House.
