In 2005 Lauren Canario was arrested when she refused to move from a property seized by the New London Development Corporation using its delegated power of eminent domain. The Supreme Court had just ruled that cities could steal people's property and give it to whomever they wished for whatever arbitrary and capricious reasons they felt like.

  • Lauren Canario is a hero! She stands up for what is right. The government is not on the side of the people, but Lauren is. They arrest her, but they can't stop her. No one can. Lauren stands for real freedom. We the people, support her. Go Lauren! I wish more people were like you! Your friend, George Vreeland Hill
  • whose rights was she pissing on exactly? she stood in a spot that she had every right to be standing in, and was arrested for not moving from that spot. who was the victim of her "crime", whose "rights were pissed on"?

and yet, it's perfectly legal for these people's homes to be taken from them? i think that is a much larger douching of piss on people's rights that a woman standing still.

I think the others are illegal land grabs too. A person's claim that their actions will benefit "the common good" is no excuse for them to steal people's property.

But, I certainly share your disagreement with this action.

  • Here is possible solution to reduce eminant domain battles. Before the sale f any home or property can take place the buyer must agree on eminant domain price with that local goverment , that price can not be changed and home's condition must be maintained to present condition or better. This forces an end lowballing and the buyer can walk away. This price is guaruteed throughout that curret ownership. Though there are details stilled be worked out, and many have liked this idea.

  • In the video they mentioned big cities love this, what about small cities like New London and Bristol?

  • The tragedy about New London is that the property in question is now standing vacant, Pfizer's pulling 1,400 jobs out of New London w/in 2 years & moving most of them to Groton, as a cost-cutting measure. It would leave behind an adjacent swath of barren land that was cleared of dozens of homes to make room for a hotel, stores and condominiums that were never built.

  • The problem is that the people lack the physical might that the government can put to bear to push these people out of their homes. We can only thank the millions of weak-minded for paying taxes and building the monster that will kill us all eventually.

  • That's what the people did in the 18th century. How well that worked out...

  • How we burned in the camps later, thinking:

What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or, during periods of mass arrests, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, had boldly set up an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? -Solzhenitsyn

  • I was reading that kalo day is coming up in june wouldn't it be cool if all of us, victims of eminent domain, were to go back to where our homes were and make some noise. like the sound of chains in the south from the souls of mistreated slave during those horrible days when it was legal to own other human being. The University of Missouri in St. Louis took my family's property to lease it express script. On april 1 I went to were I used to live and end up getting arrested for traspassing.
