"There are many things that may be good for the economy but are bad for human beings."

  • I dream of a primetime Parenti - Limbaugh debate on every corporate TV and radio station on election night, followed by Chomsky vs Bill O'Riley.

  • That's what bothers me about O'Reilly and Hannity- they only debate people that are easy to intimidate and yell at, such as 9-11 conspiracy theorists, instead of serious leftist intellectuals. I would love to see Chomsky vs. O'Reilly or Hannity, but it will never happen because they are intellectual cowards.

  • People have to stop going on Fox news, you don't go for a debate, you go for a beating. Talking to Hannity and O'Reilly only legitimizes them as news anchors, they shouldn't touch them with a barge pole. A debate on fox achieves nothing, as it's not your target audience.

  • Ha ha!

  • "There are many things which are good for the economy, which are bad for human beings"

  • Hi Johnlepo ^_^

I realize your comment I am responding to is over a year old, but...

Isn't it fantastic, humorous and not a bit ironic, that Jon 'Stewart' and The Daily Show beat out Nightline and I think it was Meet the Press for news shows?

    HA!!

  • Gosh Westphalian, you lost me there.

JFK launched Bay of Pigs?! Why did he fire Lemnitzer & Dulles then? '_'

Also, Chomsky isn't a total saint - he is a Zionist, and (most likely) as such, disavows any culpability of Mossad's involvement in 9/11. (Read the Ha'aretz story about Odigo, for starters.)

We need to be mindful & careful who we idolize.

    Respect-

    Nanette Ward

  • It's very telling that some leftists and 'radicals' get more time on fox than they do on CNN and CBS. CNN don't want any sort of a leftist reputation, and fox just want to bait the left and accuse the democrats of being communists.

  • This is a continuation to my response to your post below this one. Pierre Salinger, Kennedy's press secretary was asked how he knew Kennedy was planning on withdrawing from Vietnam, he replied "Because I announced it outside the White House in October!"

  • I don't think it is accurate to say that Chomsky discredits the notion of Kennedy as a dove or whatever you want to call him. Chomsky deals in theory and linguistics, not in history. With respect to Kennedy's assassination it does not matter how the left perceived Kennedy, as it was not they that killed him. What matters is the rights perception of Kennedy, and they thought he was seeking detente. The documentary record on Vietnam points to Kennedy's planned withdrawal.

  • Whether calm or aggressive, to be successful on those programs you basically have to have a confident, strong demeanor. Otherwise you're fucked, b/c they look for the slightest sign of weakness. Jeremy Glick was very articulate, but he appeared a little nervous so O'Reilly walked all over him.

  • I think Chomsky is right to point out that too many leftists idolize JFK as a "good" President. I've seen this first hand with my leftist Latin American Studies professor who thinks the Alliance For Progress was wonderful. According to Chomsky, Kennedy was actually a hawk on Vietnam, discrediting the theory that he was assassinated because he wasn't committed to the war.
