@Dietpepsivanilla because Ron Swoboda and Tommie Agee were using illegal steriods during the 1969 season, the Mets outfielders played like their lifes were on the line.

@simplygu The Mets had strong enough pitching in Seaver/Koosman/Matlack/Stone and the Tugger to beat the Reds in the 1973 playoffs and should have beaten the A's in the 73 world series.Rusty Staub gave them an RBI machine that they had been lacking and he was a huge addition in 1973 after they traded the Expos Singleton/Foli/Jorganson.They beat the 1973 Pirates as well as the Phillies and Cardinals who had 5 hofers on their roster.

@ShamWasBetter I disagree. The only reason the Mets won the division in '73 is because it was a down year in the NL East. The Mets won the division that year with a mediocre record of 82-79. Every other year from 1970-1983, the Mets never finished higher than 3rd place & only won more than 83 games one time... 86-76 in 1976. They still were an above average team after the '69 World Series, but finishing in 3rd place or lower for 14 straight years shows they really had things fall perfect in '69.

Can't they get the original videotape on this?
The film looks like crap
-like it's 100 years old.
The Mets were not a one hit wonder beacause they also came whithen one win of winning it all in 1973 after upsetting the Big Red Machine in the 1973 NL playoffs as a 50-1 under dog.
