The gestation of Carnival began with my discovery of Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, which is a grand romp of a chamber work, chronicling the different animals in circus-like ridiculosity. In fact, Camille (hes a French dude) was fairly ashamed of this piece, and refused its performance during his lifetime. I, on the other hand, am not ashamed of this piece. Perhaps this gives you a hint as to who's the better composer! ZING on me! This piece is dedicated to the work of ten dear friends of mine:

To Guiseppe's servile obedience to the prima donna; To Antonio's [servile obedience to the prima donna]; To the leonine stature of the Pianist; To the wishy-washy poetics of Claude; To the Jazzer's never-ending foot-tapping; To Arnold's twelvish love for dissonance; To Béla and his old folks; To Ives borrowing of materials (building on Antonio's work); To Cage's penning of the last words (or non-words). But most important of all, here's to the shame of my darling Camille.
