Metadata is the who, what, when, and where of an eBook. Items like your title, subtitle, author name, and description are all types of metadata and are what most retailers use to appropriately list and categorize your content. Metadata is also one of the main causes for an eBook to bounce back from distribution, so it's important to ensure it's correct.

As best I can understand from this, my book Tree complies with all these points. But it was not accepted for Global Reach, and the reason I was given had to do with the ISBN number, which had an additional "-1" on the number. Please note that I DID NOT DO THAT. I had no part in affixing the ISBN number. It was done by you, Lulu, not by me. I sent you a long message to that extent and no one has responded to me. Either correct this or send me a refund for my cost.

This was resolved some time ago. I added the -1 to the ISBN number on my copyright page, and it has all been changed. So now it should pass all requirements for GlobalReach, and I am supposing that is true. I made my own corrections, because it was faster than waiting for lulu to do so.

Publishers are expanding their definition and uses of metadata, in order to make their titles easier to find in text searches. Readers don’t care about metadata — until they can or can’t find the book they’re looking for.
