There is a reason why virtually all Dutch children cycle to school. The best infrastructure in the world leads to the highest cycling rate. It is designed to make cycling a very attractive proposition.

In this video we follow the route taken by secondary school children who live in the village of Vries to the nearest school for their age group - 8.5 km away in Assen.

Not all secondary age children from this village will go to this school. Some go to other schools in Assen, or to Groningen which is 18 km North of Vries.

This is not bike to school day or any other exceptional event. This is simply a normal school day, and the same thing is repeated all through the year. Children from other villages in the area do much the same, and with a very similar standard of infrastructure.
