This is a 16mm experiment I originally created as part of my studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I then went back and modified it for performance at the Palm Springs International Festival of Shorts (among other showings).

The film was shot on Kodak Tri-X stock with a Bolex Rex-4. Lighting was mostly done with three penlights and a flashlight.

  • Awesome Seth. Excellent.

Heavy duty Lynchian self-contained inner world. Your synth drones were right on. The textures were excellent. I liked your minimal exposures with almost no lightening. Let the darkness reign supreme. Just the barest of detail. Very funky laser or jagged penlight ? How many minutes exposure per frame?

    I can't until my own Rex-4 arrives....which I am converting to native spherical Regular 8mm Cinemascope (1:2.4).

  • @freedom4kids Wow! Thank you. I'm used to getting spam comments, and this one was amazing. Thanks. Checked out your anamorphic test, btw on 8mm. Excited to see what you do.

The lighting? It was almost all penlight: some handheld, some taped to yardsticks to trace broader strokes. Exposure was all over the place... This was seven years ago, but I think I was around 20 seconds - 2 minutes depending.

Keep me posted on your work and goodluck! : )

  • So what has happened to the Bolex Rex 4? Are you still filming?

  • very cool... 5*****

  • Loved it!

Fives stars and a thermos of kerosine!

  • We really liked the cool images and the spooky music.

  • GORGEOUS! and the soundtrack's haunting harmony works perfectly with the images. I'm impressed you shot this on 16mm. This must've taken hundreds of hours just to shoot! Congrats on the festival showings!
