I read in the paper, that the governor of California approved a bill that involved 7 billion dollars. This approved bill was to expand prisons, not schools. I believe we need to improve education, not incarceration. Are we preparing to lock up more victims of poverty instead of educating kids? If you start off with no options how hard would that make your life? I am far from supporting criminals. I don't even think that criminals support each other. It's more of survival. Let me ask you. Is a privileged kid entitled to receive support from his/her parents in a good neighborhood and college paid for? No. They are not entitled to receive this life but that option is given to them.
We will start with being born in the ghetto. If a child's parent is a recovering drug addict and depends on the kid to work to provide for the family and go to school. No matter how long you wait. The smoke never seems to clear. The child's dreams of receiving an education are impossible without a helping hand. Let's say that this child grows to be a young adult without being hit by a stray bullet. But because of being the provider of his/her home and trying to finish high school and helping his/her parent when they slip off recovery, this makes it almost impossible to look towards college. Did you know even with a decent scholarship, textbooks can be expensive? Then there is food, transportation and still shelter?
Now, we have another child. With high paid teachers and a Mother and Father who had the same thing. All this kid has to do is go to school. The chances of getting hit by a bullet are close to none. The child grows to be a young adult his/her parents pressure him/her to go to college. The young adult receives a car from his/her parents as praise.
Tell me who really has a better chance of going to college and who's future seems to be impossible. No matter how long you wait and how hard you work. No person should have to have to undergo that much torment. I believe that the state funds should go towards more programs for the children that want to learn and don't have the parents to support them. That's how we stop this cycle of criminal behavior. Just throwing people in prison does not add a solution to crime. Pay the teachers more. Pay the social workers more. Do you know how heavy a social worker's case load is? People want to help. We have to build the ghetto up like a parent raises a child.
I also read in the paper that FEMA let food spoil and then threw it out. Forty Million Dollars worth. If you know that food is going to expire, why not give it away before throwing it in the trash.
Did you know, the victims of Katrina have to pay a $100.00 fine if their lawn is not cut? Most of the victims had to move out of the state to survive. They can't even live in their house.
Why are the white students from Jena, LA not being charged as the blacks are? Why should the black people move form thier home because losers tell them to.

Teachers unions and others with vested interests in the current school system will tell you the problem is funding, what a surprise. They're telling you they want more money. We could spend twice as much on schools and have no notable improvement. They tried exactly that in Chicago (the Annenberg challenge). The problem is NOT MONEY!!! It's POLICY. I'd like to reform public schools but they resist reform unto death. Get kids OUT of failing schools, Obama was wrong to cancel D.C. school choice.

>> actually the answer to this is yes. Your parents forced you into your situation therefore they owe you a decent start. Whether or not they give it to you is another issue altogether. I think the problem is all about arrests over drugs...

I dont know about that... see its white people who do the complaining, and all that the discriminated society can do is nothing but talk under their breath. This is a new century, a new society I think "people" should grow up and stop discriminating. Before we know it, all this "eye for an eye" will make us blind, and then how is one to complain about color? Either way it will end in peace.

I am a fairly optimistic person, but I dont believe there is hope for people in poverty. If the government remain as is there will be no change. Members of the government are themselves terrorists. They cover it up and pretend things arent happening. And focus on other countries in pursuit of world domination and havn't look with in themselves to see how horrible their country is. America is not a free country, Unless your rich. The law is for poor people.
