If fructose is so bad, they would tell us to never eat fruit again.

@mle011 But sucrose has equal equivalences. High fructose corn syrup has a higher equivalence of fructose and not is manufactures, thus not the exact same molecules as found naturally in foods we eat etc. The ratio is different therefore it is not the same, a slight change in composition, configuration etc changes the molecules

@KpopManiacSFL Lol I never said glucose and fructose are the same! haha Obviously they are not. I was saying sucrose is made of fructose and glucose just like high-fructose corn syrup is made of fructose and glucose. Maybe you should go back to HS chem ;)

@mle011 Glucose and fructose ARE NOT THE SAME CHEMICALLY nor physically etc, one is five-membered ring and the other four! Next you'll tell starch is made up of fructose monomers, go back to HS chem.

You're right Whoopie! For a change, I am in total agreement with her.

High fructose corn syrup-- typically made of 42% fructose, 58% glucose. OR 55% fructose and 45% glucose. (it's called HFCS-42 or HFCS-55). Sucrose (regular table sugar) is made of 50% fructose, 50% glucose. PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS! It is made of the SAME EXACT monosaccharides! It is digested the SAME EXACT way in the body and treated the SAME EXACT WAY by your digestive system. This is so frustrating to see people still believe that High Fructose Corn Syrup is "bad"!!

See now here is the thing. Why do adults think that if we play in p.e. with other kids that it will help us gain friends and socialize and it helps with team work. All I've learned from it is if you dont play at all or as good as another kid, then your a freak or a nerd. It hasnt taught one person in my class to work together or to grow friendship with one another. It just lets the more popular and dominate kids find another place to torture the weak.

I'm a substitute teacher; every school in the county I live in has recess and gym, but the food they give the kids is crap. But a lot of that has to do with budget; pre-packaged, processed foods are cheaper. And kids are used to cheap, crappy food and it's all they'll eat. I was doing some title 1 tutoring and had to bring snacks for the kids, so I brought boxed raisins, and no one would eat them. I compromised by bringing string cheese instead.

Lack of recess is a small contribution to the problem. The whole culture has changed. I used to play soccer and dodgeball in the street with my neighbors. My younger brother spends his time playing our Wii.
