Here is the deal. Everyone wants to get all high and mighty and say "the life of a human is more valuable than an animal so therefore.. blah blah". All that is is spin. The real reason they shot the animals was because it would have been TOO EXPENSIVE to tranquilize, transport, and care for the 50 or so animals. Let's get realistic.

1st Impression:

1) The Officer is using Military-Speak cadence and terminology. Purposes:

A: Tout necessity of Unit & its tactics by trumping up urgency + eminent danger.

B: Official Assertiveness as defense mechanism for thwarting questions, critique.

C: Braggadocio disguised as Bravado; i.e. "We've accounted for 46..." translates to "We nailed that many and have their carcasses to prove it!"; "We couldn't have them running loose in this county." Unofficial: "This is My turf, My ass, My way!"

2nd:

B.S! Hanna et al. not permitted on property. Very likely he could have rounded up a number of wranglers to do the job in a humane way. All of the animals were found within a 1/4 mile of their home; most were docile and merely lying down, such as one lion as reported by the 911 caller.

3rd:

Initial reports indicated that the zoo owner had shot himself and that the cages had been cut open to prevent the animals from being restored to them. What about the cages where the doors were merely opened? Why weren't they sabotaged as well? WHY was the body of the owner only discovered AFTER DARK? Suicide omniscience by the Sheriff? Extra special detail: wound to scalp from "bite mark". Lions and tigers will partake of a meal in the wild. These were not 'wild' in the traditional sense.

4th:

My opinion: The owner was out on parole for 3 weeks; he did his time; he loved his animals; he would not have wantonly released them to fend for themselves, knowing others would be there to feed them; he would have also known the outcome for his creatures of such an act.

After surviving jail, you quit in 3 weeks? I truly believe that something sinister befell the owner. Perhaps a Deputy, in the guise of a Parole Officer, paid a visit and instigated a scuffle. The Sheriff didn't want to have

any further dealings with the owner or his menagerie. Operation: Extreme Prejudice was underway. All went according to plan until the 911 call came in, then it became damage control. No more leisurely Safari for them good 'ol boyz. Bring out the heavy artillery that is just as 'hard' to procure as a group of Animal Control experts' access to dart guns. Bring in Hanna for validation, even though he is completely denied any access to offer advice.

I do not buy the 'Official' accounting...at all.
