Back on the road again, now all the fine tuning can begin, the car is running much smoother, even though the timing and carburetor have yet to be adjusted, the car will be going onto a scope to take any guesswork out of things. The transmission, while shifting very nicely, when left in automatic mode, shifts at way too low RPM to take advantage of the engine's torque at higher RPM. It shift into third just under 60 miles per hour at wide open throttle. It should be doing this at about 75 mile per hour. A kit for the governor springs will address this in time.

  • how fast is this thing currently going and what engine?

  • @Gibson299 The car still has the 350 Rocket engine, the same one demonstrated in this movie. I have never opened it up fully, but on a private road not very long ago did have it up to 115 MPH (quickly!) according to the GPS. I figure another 5 to 10 MPH could be had out of the engine.

  • My dad had one pretty identical to this one as far as I can remember. Great car, nice to see someone care for these old beauties. Thanx for posting this vid.

  • @GTM57 You are welcome. Thanks for the words, it is an ongoing project. I am glad this car has brought back memories for you. Most everywhere we stop with this car, be it at a service station, country store along our travel routes, or even at stoplights, people will always speak of their memories with a car like this. It seems these Vista Cruisers touched many lives.

  • sweet car

  • Thanks very much. What ever happened to the once proud industry? I wonder if we will ever see cars like this and other interesting offerings ever to be made again, at a price the average working person can afford.

  • @spikedpunk popular car it is.

we had a 72, well it's their, no rust need's paint, original 455 v8 block in it, though it's got a brutal knock in it.

great car though, BIG, huge, Fucking boat, but still good car, not great on gas, but that's fixable LOL nice car man

  • I could always tell and Oldsmobile coming, they always had/have a distinct rumble to them.

  • Hey Jack! No, I did not have to do anything except shim up the support plate against the frame a little, and I still have to adjust the pointer as can be seen. Quite hassle free all in all!

  • Thanks very much, it is not one seen too often either!
