This is why I think Martha was a better companion than Rose (Rose worshipers can bite me). By making the Doctor open up and share his story with Martha (and in turn, us), it allows him time to face reality and heal. Martha was a stepping stone (respectfully) in the Doctor's path to face his demons both figuratively and then literally in Journey's End and End of Time. Martha prepared the Doctor for what Donna (best companion of the new series IMO) had to offer.

This is a truely beautiful scene from ten... He looks so alone throughout this entire section and you truely get the sense he is so desperate to see his home world how he remembers it again... :'( I also like the mirror in how he describes the burnt orange sky with outer space cities and cathedrals before showing an image of New New York at dusk with the sunset burning the sky orange as he talks... It's also a good move to make the audience wait half a series before showing us what he described

He's mentioned having thousands of years of knowledge as his 3rd incarnation ; he could have gotten memory implants or other ways of getting massive informations fast. you dont need to be old to be wise sometimes ; the doctor is both ;)

everytime he talks about Gallifrey, i imagine i'm there seeing the second sun rises. feeling the breeze in my hair, staring at the citadel.

my only dream i'll ever have is becoming a time lord, running fighting, wandering in space......

That's partly why I don't believe for a second that the Doctor hasn't even hit 1300 years old. He's mentioned having thousands of years of knowledge as his 3rd incarnation, which had the most truth in his voice. Thus any other number less than a thousand follows the rule, "The Doctor lies,” which explains why he never can keep it straight.

I believe that the Doctor started counting again after the end of the Time War as a way to heal. 900 years without seeing home is more sad than a few decades

    Yeah :c....

And yeah,Rose is okay, she's nice, friendly, and at some points Helpful, but it seems she just wanted to be the 1st and only companion to The Doctor. I have grown to love Rory and Amy, and it SUCKS we don't see them anymore =(.

No, I have to agree with you, Rose is nice, but she is helpless, and is not very relevent to the doctor (not compared to others).

Personally, Amy and Rory are my favorite, it always brings tears to my eyes when I remember them.

You can forget an episode of Doctor Who

But you never truly forget the Doctor, and his companions.

No matter how much it hurts.

Truly one of the most moving scenes in the new series. Abide With Me is already an emotional song for me, and combined with seeing the Doctor so vulnerable, I can't help but cry every time.
