The location of the land of Punt is a highly debated issue in Egyptology. Most scholars agree that it was located in the Horn of Africa. Dr Ian Shaw is an Egyptologist and a senior lecturer in Egyptian archaeology. He has done extensive excavations from sites in different dynasties of Egypt. In the Oxford history of Egypt he had this to say.


Thewwre is still some debate regarding the precise location of Punt, which was once identified with the region of modern Somalia. A strong argument has now been made for its location in either southern Sudan or the Eritrea, where the indigenous plants and animals equate most closely with those depicted in the Egyptian reliefs and paintings.




James Henry was an American archaeologist and historian he like all other intelligent historians believed the land of Punt was in the Horn of Africa. In Ancient Records of Egypt, Historical Documents, Vol. II he said the following.


"The question of the location of Punt is too large for discussion here, but is was certainly in Africa, and probably was the Somali coast."


While, the exact location of the land of punt is in debate one thing is clear. The land of Punt was located in Africa.


There are no ruins of the land of Punt in the Arabian Peninsula but there are many in East Africa.

I really didn't know that there was any debate about where Punt was. I just looked up this video after reading about Punt in my history book, "Traditions & Encounters- A Brief Global History." My book straight up says Punt was in the Horn of Africa or modern day Somalia & Ethiopia.

@bunce101 And why not? Why don't you do actual research on the baboons in Eritrea which is the same as the baboons which are mummified from thousands of years. Also, the highlands are important because much of the culture of Punt resided their, as well as clues to the ancient pagan God of that land, and I bet dollars to doughnuts you don't know who I speak off. Punt is located in Eritrea, Djibouti/Somalia? and Ethiopia or at least northern Ethiopia. No one knows how the landscape was defined.

@Superseadragon go look up the ancient cave paintings in 'puntland' somalia and the almost 10,000year old camel painting and see the design/clothing of the paintings you'll see they are the same as those egyptian paintings, theres very little doubt land of punt is somalia-djibouti/eritrea/and possibly yemen but ethiopia had nothing to do with it

@CushiticSomalianMale Correction, I am a man, so watch yourself. Second, I'm Eritrean, and I respect other peoples, so I demand the same. Third, we obviously have a long coastline. And don't you think the Land of Punt would be closer to Kush? You say I'm Sabbean, and yes, some of my ancestors were. They controlled both sides, and were a BLACK peoples. In anycase, there is a book called Black Spark, White Fire, and there is a section detailing where Punt resided once. The land of MY ancestors.
