  • I think it's wonderful to expose your children to the miraculous life of a butterfly!

  • @maryanddano -- Thank you! We enjoy it every year now. ^_^

  • heyy. thats really cool. right now im raising great white caterpillas, but i think you guys in the us call them cabbage or somethingg. . just woundering, but howmany of yours were sucsessfull ? X Abbie. x

  • In the UK we call them "Cabbage Whites"

  • @Brookbadger -- So do we. ^_^ We were just learning the names, and I think my daughter called them "Cabbage Butterflies" here in the video. Almost right. She got the basic idea. ^_^

  • @CouldItBeAbby -- Sorry I'm only now responding. :( I'm not sure exactly how many were successful, but a LOT! The year before this we actually had 1000 Painted Lady caterpillars, which made 300 chrysalises, and we had some-250 healthy adult butterflies. It was INSANE! But it's the project that turned us into butterfly enthusiasts. ^_^

  • Nice job. I like raising moths and some butterflies.

  • were do you get all of those caterpillars?

  • @553adam - Sorry, 553adam... I don't check my comments very much. We got them by planting the kind of plants that the adult butterflies like to lay their eggs on. For example, we know that Black Swallowtail caterpillars like to eat carrots, parsley, dill, fennel, and rue, so we planted some parsley and rue. Sure enough, some butterflies laid their eggs! To get Cabbage White caterpillars, we planted cabbage! ^_^ Hope that helps.
