I know many find Horowitz's 60s recordings of this piece superior, but I prefer Horowitz' rendering of the middle section and the penultimate jackhammer-like section in this recording.

There is IMO a better recording, which combines the best of all his late-period performances of this piece: the 1985 studio recording (new york), but I can't find it on YT anymore.
