A hoard of Spaniards from Galicia, Spain, playing the gaita gallega in Belgrade - their own traditional type of pipes. Many thanks to PeterPiper86 for the correction of the info. Enjoy.

  • Out of interest, what song are they playing?

  • @Talkathonic No idea, sorry Talkathonic. I was simply being a tourist around the ramparts, when these pipers marched in and started playing. Hopefully a viewer will be able to enlighten us as to the name of the song.

  • Two types of bagpipes are played in Spain.....This one is the gaita gallega,

( Galician bagpipe ) and the other is the gaita asturiana, ( Asturian bagpipe )

This part of Spain has many Celtic traditions from the Celtic expansion prior to the Roman Conquest of the Iberian Peninsula......Spaniards always remind the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish people that they are NOT the only Celtic Nations....

  • @sierracuban Many thanks for the information sierracuban - I had quite literally no idea about the Celtic traditions of Spain.

  • @hugleberthumperdink YOU ARE WELCOME my friend......My father who died 2 years ago at the age of 103 years, would weep with emotion anytime he heard his Asturian bagpipes.....He left Spain as a teen in 1921 for Cuba, as many Spaniards did seeking better fortunes....And indeed, he became very wealthy, as did hundreds of thousands of Spaniards in Cuba from the 1920's to 1959.....Castro stole everything from them.......He passed away here in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. Sierra Cuban....

  • @sierracuban I am truly sorry for your loss. 103 years, that is pretty incredible. I personally do not know enough about the influence Castro had on Cuba on his arrival on the political scene, but it seems that too much emphasis is put on the eventual 'good' that came out of his actions (which is most certainly open to disagreement) - I had no idea he simply liquidated everyone's wealth and made it Cuba's property - I imagine it was worded in a more 'favourable' light, to hide the blunt truth.

  • @sierracuban THANK YOU......Good to find a person with culture and education....My father was from Asturias, Spain, and he would weep of emotion whenever he heard an Asturian bagpipe.....He left Spain at the age of 15 in early 1921 for Cuba....He passed away in 2009 at the age of almost 104 years...Born 08-12-1905.

  • @Talkathonic Think I can help once again (after identifying the band as Galician, about a year ago). It's an Asturian tune called "Xuanin de Mieres". Cheers! :)
