After Lucca, Brooklyn's boyfriend and Nico's brother, dies, a year passes before anything happens to the pair of them. After Brooklyn's friend, Gabe, dies of an overdose, he begins to haunt her dreams, turning them into frightening nightmares she can't control. At the same time, Lucca's ghost appears to Nico, warning him to help Brooklyn. The pain from the deaths has injured both characters, who each have a part in telling the story.
