Miyama Ryu JuJutsu
www.Blackbeltfitnesscenter.com
In 1960 the Tremont School of Judo and Ju-jutsu opened its doors to the public for the first time. The founder, a fierce man named Antonio Pereira, taught a fighting style which he called Combato, the way of Combat.

Combato was a crude form of Ju-jutsu. The founder had learned these fighting techniques from commandos during WWII in Australia. The founder traveled to Japan and studied martial arts for eight hours a day under such masters as Mifune of Judo, Ueshiba of Aikido and Professor Shimata of Ju-jutsu. His fierce resolve and dedication won him many honors. Among them were a teaching certificate in Aikido signed by Kisshomura Ueshiba, a Nidan in Kodokan Judo and a San Mokuroku in Sosuishitsu Ryu Ju-jutsu.

The founder returned to the United States and began to teach Aikido at the Tremont School. But this wasn't suitable for the residents of the Bronx, who needed more aggressive self-defense techniques. He refined his original Combato, augmenting it with the classical techniques that he had learned. The founder called his method Miyama-Ryu, which means the School of the Three Mountains, and he assumed the title of Shinan (The Originator).

Shinan Pereira died in 1999 and with him the era of Tremont as the center of Miyama Ryu came to an end. Miyama Ryu Combat Jujutsu has branched out from the tough streets of the South Bronx to several countries on several continents.

Not only is Miyama Ryu Combat Jujutsu taught to civilians, but it has been used in the design of courses for United States Federal agents, taught at police and law enforcement academies across the world and is still being refined today by two Dai-Shihans, D'Arcy Rahming and Dr. William Duke, and an international Executive Committee led by Shihan Robert Aviles Sr.

  • I would only comment against a mugger it would be wise to just give them the money, wallet, metro card or whatever. I dont care what degree blackbelt you are. never fight a mugger with a knife.

A better Bronx mugging defense. Keep a dummy wallet on you with like less than 20 bucks.

If you feel the need to defend against a knife, than I would use the term street killer (once who kills, or attempts to kill on the street). It would be wise to use different tactics in this case.

  • I could tell you never been in the Bronx where muggers will rob and still stab you for laughs...giving away the wallet is not the problem at all, I will gladly give it away if need be before a knife fight. The real probem is when they say "give me your money and I'm going to kill you" then what? Train for the worse.........if your still not sure about these tech' your welcome to drop by any of the Miyama Ryu Schools and show us how to do it...

  • Well when you post something on youtube, you open yourself up for critism happens to us all.

good jujitsu, I like the throws, and such. very skilled. The knife defense was not reaslistic. Not to judge but to point something out. No real street killer would ever come at you with a knife like that. I just came from South Africa, and trust me the way they yield a blade you'd be skinned. But overall good basic Japanese Jujitsu.

  • The video shows basic techniques, the more advance levels has many knife strikes from diffferent angles. Don't know what you mean by real street killers, the system works very well against muggers of the South Bronx....

  • Hey Felix you should have taught me this stuff years ago, i could have avoided those Weapons Charges, Carl

  • I tell you what, hand-over your treasure string box and I will give you lessons but also include your books...

  • One should make a personal decision as to what is worth fighting for. If the "man with a gun to your head" tells you to do something that will lead to your ultimate demise, then you had might as well fight. Besides if he is dumb enough to put the gun to your head then he has just removed whatever advantage a ranged weapon had previously granted him.

  • My apologies, I've been corrected as this is jujutsu and not exactly aikido. But that's still how aikido can look like when applied realistically.

  • The difference between this video and real life, is that if a man has a gun to your head you do what he f**king says. No matter what belt you are.

  • That's nice to see some proper Aikido which is not just ballroom dancing. Makes me laugh when people call it hard... if it was really that hard, the guy wouldn't get back up. If it were softer, tori would be dead.

  • a little bit too hard... softer.... that's better :D

  • Good Point indeed. To all that practice the beautiful martial arts, I say "Peace and keep training".

  • good point dude. that's what the comment box IS about.

Your comments were pretty constructive, tho everyone is going to have their opinions on what is a realistic attack. BUT training like this is to hone your reflexes and your mind / body coordination. So when a REAL situation does arise your body will act accordingly.

Guess the hard part is how to prepare for those situations. Everybody thinks it's different.

  • Miyama-ryu Jujutsu

  • This is one of the best representations of aikido I have seen on u-tube. The attacks look defined and realistic. It is good to see other dojos that take a practical approach to the art.

  • Actually man, I was born in the Bronx, I grew up in the Castle Hill projects. mugging and killing were separate but I guess like you said anything can happen. I guess you gotta access the situation.

Relax man, Youtube is a forum for people to comment, I didnt come out disrepectful I just made a comment in the designated comment space. But you gotta be secure in what you do, you cant go off when people say something thats different than your beliefs.

If I offended sorry, that wasn't my intent.
