NOBODY is just plain "stupid", are they? We've all got better and worse ideas, and our own particular set of preconceptions and biases to work with. We have to admit that we are all DEFINITELY wrong about a number of things... problem is, we obviously don't know what or how yet.
One thing Brin said that I think is really smart is that criticism is the only antidote to error. But just calling people "stupid" is not good criticism.

Hey - I grew up on his books. I met him and had a great chat at con. But let me tell you that his opinion on this issue is as uninformed as one could get. If he thinks they attacked us because we are rich and free then he is stupid.

David Brin is one of the smartest people on the planet. And if you think he's stupid, I wonder what that makes you? I somehow doubt that you possess godlike intellect.

Um...The biggest problem with David Brin is he's stupid. But the Uplift War Trilogy still rules.

Please elaborate in what way is David Brin stupid? The former Mayor of New York made many mistakes leading up to 9/11, inadequate radios for emergency services and placing a vital New York city emergency service in the world trade towers are two that come to mind. Can you add more?
